THE VOCAL 78
AUCTION of SEPTEMBER 17th. 2009 is now OPEN
I have also included some very rare records in lesser condition because the hope of finding them elsewhere is minimal.There are also two rare Speech records.
Please note that I have changed the grading system; the condition of the records that are listed use a prior grading notation. A top copy is now graded 2+ (previously graded as 2 to 2+.)
If I do not already have you on my mail list please E-Mail or Snail Mail your contact information to me.
. . . . . . . .J. Neil Forster July 30, 2009. . . . . . . . A word of introduction: I am first and foremost a collector. I collect old and rare classical vocal records, primarily in the original 78 rpm form. You might call me a “Bauer” collector since I have a fondness for the 39000 series FONOTIPIAs; early G&Ts; ODEONS and ZONOPHONES. The principal reason being that they usually feature the voice, in a very forward way, and, usually with only a minimal piano accompaniment. I acquire records regularly and, after the fun of playing them, keep only those that have a very strong appeal. These days my collecting is focused on Melodie; Lieder and Song rather than Opera. In keeping my collection thinned out I seek only to recover my costs, and so a discriminating collector may find opportunities in this List to acquire fairly uncommon records at reasonable prices. <> I will pay very good prices to collectors looking to dispose of part or all of their collections.Since I am primarily a collector I can afford to pay more than those who are purely dealers. I can also usually arrange to visit and inspect such collections, and, if a price can be agreed upon I can pay immediately - in cash, and take the records away myself. Please E-Mail me if you would like to discuss such a possibility. I issue auction lists of very rare, and not so rare, 78 rpm records regularly featuring Singers such as:- Abendroth; Adini; Aramis; Buff-Giessen; Cornubert;
Escalais; Forstel; Garulli; Lilli Lehman; Litvinne; Maurel; Scaremberg;
S on Labels such as: ZONOPHONE; FONOTIPIA; G&T; EDISON; BERLINER; ODEON; EMERSON and PATHÉ. Rare, and not so rare instrumental and orchestral titles are also listed, including Conductors; Pianists & Violinists such as:- Backhaus; Bartok; Bouillon; Burmester; Busch; Busoni; Busser; Candela; Chaminade; Charpentier; Coppola; da Motta; d'Albert; d'Ambrosio; Diemer; Elman; Eibenschutz; Flesch; Friedheim; Granados; Grieg; Grünfeld; Hofmann; Inghelbrecht; d'Indy; Janotha; Joachim; Kleiber; von Koczalski; Kubelik; Pierné; Plante; Prihoda; Pugno; Risler; Rosé; Saint-Saens; R.Strauss; von Sauer; Viardot; and Wolfsthal. One feature of my lists has been an effort to include matrix nos. and take nos. wherever possible. The matrix numbers are copied from the records themselves. The only artistic license taken is to substitute the arabic numeral "2" for the Roman "II" in quoted matrix take numbers, e,g, an engraved "XXPH 3388-II" may be quoted as [XXPH 3388-2]. Isolated take numbers are as engraved on the record so that even if a Victor Take "1" is known to be the second take recorded I stay with the take no. "1" as engraved on the disk itself.One of my past Instrumental Lists featuring rarities of many kinds, including 'only known copies' has itself become a collector's item due to inclusion of the matrix nos. (where possible) and photographs of the labels of many extreme rarities. This was my March 15, 2002 Auction List. The complete list in PDF format is quite large. A separate file containing only the label photos, also in PDF format, is somewhat smaller and so easier to load. I apologize in advance for any problems encountered in searching this site: I have built it from the ground up entirely on my own using MICROSOFT FRONT PAGE plus some NETSCAPE editing tools. It should be quite well-behaved on INTERNET EXPLORER or NETSCAPE. J. Neil Forster, August 12, 2009. You are Visitor No.
